Our Story

How It All Started

Our first cockapoo came into our lives over a decade ago, and from the moment she walked through the door, everything changed. She was smart, gentle, low-shedding, and completely perfect for our family. We were hooked.

For years, friends and family asked us where to find a puppy "just like ours." We kept referring people to breeders we trusted, but as demand grew and quality became harder to find, we made the decision to breed ourselves — the right way.

West Coast Cockapoos was born from that commitment. We wanted to create a program where every decision, from the pairing of parents to the socialization protocol to the homes we place puppies in, was made with the puppy's wellbeing first.

We're based in the Fraser Valley and raise a small number of litters each year. This isn't a commercial operation — it's a family passion.

How We Do Things

Our Approach to Breeding

01

Health Testing First

Every parent dog undergoes comprehensive health testing before being included in our program — OFA hip and elbow evaluations, cardiac clearances, and eye certifications. We only breed dogs that meet the highest health standards.

02

Puppy Culture Protocol

From day 3, our puppies receive Early Neurological Stimulation — a series of gentle exercises proven to build confidence, reduce stress responses, and create a stronger bond with humans. It's a small investment that pays dividends for life.

03

Home-Raised Environment

Our puppies are whelped and raised in our living room. They experience dishwashers, vacuums, children, guests, and the full texture of family life. By the time they go home, nothing surprises them.

04

Careful Family Matching

We take time to understand each family before placing a puppy. We match temperament to lifestyle — an active outdoor family gets a different puppy than a quiet household with seniors. We want it to be the right fit for everyone.

05

Transparent Communication

From the moment you join our waitlist, we keep you informed. Weekly photos and updates as the litter develops, full disclosure of health results, and honest conversations about what to expect.

06

After-Placement Support

Our relationship doesn't end at pickup. We're genuinely available to answer questions, offer guidance on training, nutrition, and health, and we love receiving updates about our puppies as they grow.

About the Breed

Why Cockapoos?

The cockapoo — a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle — has been one of the most beloved hybrid dogs for decades, and for good reason.

They inherit the Cocker Spaniel's gentle, affectionate nature and the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat. The result is a dog that's equally happy on a hike or on your lap, easy to train, and surprisingly adaptable to different living situations.

Cockapoos tend to be excellent family dogs — patient with children, friendly with other animals, and deeply bonded to their people. Their low-to-no-shed coats make them a popular choice for families with allergies.

As with any breed, the quality of the breeding matters enormously. A well-bred cockapoo from health-tested parents will live 12–16 years and bring immeasurable joy to your family.
